Purchasing A Garden Vacuum

Purchasing A Garden Vacuum
By Nazima Golamaully

Owning a lawn vacuum helps you a lot in keeping the lawn or garden very clean. You can get rid of all the debris, dirt, rubbish and leaves from your garden in no time with the help of the garden vacuums. These devices are not only utilized for taking in and collecting garbage but are also famous blowing it away from your lawn as well. That is one of the main reasons why people love to keep garden vacuums for their lawns. Trying to clean your garden manually by picking up leaves with your hand and cleaning dirt with a broom takes a lot of time. Moreover it is a hard job to do. So it is better to purchase a lawn vacuum for your garden in order to make your job much easier and faster as well. Given below in this article I have provided information about the purchase of these vacuums.

First of all you are required to see the existing garden mower to check if it has a vacuum feature installed in it already. If it is not installed then you should not worry as it can be set up very easily. A vacuum accessory is obtainable for many lawn mowers.

Before purchasing the vacuum for the lawn, you must examine the space and area of the lawn first. In case you have a huge garden inside your house and the leaves fall all over it then you must purchase a garden vacuum that functions on gas power. In case the area of the yard is not that huge then you may purchase a small device. Both small and large devices are really effective and clean up the garden.

There are many different kinds of yard vacuum cleaners available in the market for the consumers and you must do proper research and examination before selecting the one for your lawn or garden. In case you buy a cleaner device in a hurry and select the wrong device then you will be extremely disappointed.

It is my personal experience; I needed a cleaner for the garden I had around my house and without searching properly I bought the wrong device. The result was only frustration and annoyance. So to avoid this frustration and annoyance, you must carefully select the device for your garden. You can easily purchase these products from the market as they are readily available at affordable prices.

JCB 70360 Wet and Dry Handheld Vacuum Cleaner Cordless, Yellow

I've been using this around the house and car for picking up small spills and little bits of dirt that don't quite warrant a full clean.

It's a solid little cleaner (though not so solid that it's too heavy to carry on a strap). It copes well enough with most of what I've given it to do (which is little bits of dust and dirt and one (admittedly small) spill. Of course, the suction power isn't quite so good as my mains cleaner, but this does its job well. Also has a handy car charger.

Black & Decker 2600 Watt Blower / Vacuum Shredder

I found the vacuum extremely powerful and nice & light to carry around. After 2 days of use, still haven't got to grips with the shoulder strap and have discarded it. I've had the same problem as the first reviewer, excessive dust coming out of the bag area, obviously not connecting right. But worse than this, the bag has started to fly off the machine in mid-use showering me in debris! After this happened 5 times, I gave up and started raking leaves with my £4.98 wire rake from B&Q, (5 stars). Am yet to get through to anyone at Black & Decker, they are not good at after sales service, I wonder why

GMC 649035 30cc Petrol Vacuum Blower

Always wanted a vac blower, My garden is very big 50ft wide 300ft long, surrounded by trees, so lots of leaves to rake up. Ordered the vac, delivered next day, with free postage. A bit of a fiddle to put together but with a helping hand done in 1 hour. Primed the engine, started first time. What a blower! it blows wet leaves with a great blast, and sucks them up easily. The only draw back with wet foliage is the collection bag can get heavy and wet. So your trousers can get a bit wet to.All in all the vac does what it is suppossed to do .

Black & Decker GW2200 Blower Vacuum

I purchased this as a direct replacement for an older model which had broken after years of hard service.

I find this model even better to use. Far better balanced to carry than the older model, a lot easier to empty and far easier to swap over the vacuum and blower nozzles too. It even takes up less storage space in my shed too. During the recent snow I used it to clear my drive and it did the job in a fraction of the time it would have taken using a broom and shovel.

I think the only improvement would be to provide a wheel on the end of the vacuum nozzle just to make life even easier, but that is being really picky.

New Twin Wheeled Garden Gear Garden Vac With Integrated Shredder With Large 25ltr Collection Bag

This machine is easy to assemble and to use. It works fine with smaller leaves when they are dry, but struggles to cope with larger leaves such as chestnut, blocking up for time to time. The maceration also cannot cope with the nuts' cases and requires occasional de-clogging!
Used on a hard drive it is fine, much easier than brushing or raking, but not so good on a lawn. The wheels are not far enough apart and when the bag gets full it tends to topple sideways.

Flymo Garden Vac 2700

I ordered this garden vac having read the reviews of it on Amazon and of other comparable products. None seemed to be without their flaws and so I thought I'd hedge my bets and go for something at the cheaper end of the spectrum. My expectations were that it would do a reasonable job when set to "blow" but my hopes for the vacuum setting weren't high.

I was quite surprised by the size of the Fly mo when it arrived (although this may be standard as I haven't used a garden vacuum previously); it is not a small tool (about 3ft long) and takes up a fair chunk of our garden shed, especially with the bag attached. Putting it together, in particular attaching the bag, was a fiddly operation but took about half an hour overall.

Using it is very easy, with a straightforward forward/back "gear stick" to set it to blow or suck. It did a great job clearing the leaves from our patio, where there was relatively little resistance. It had a harder time when trying to clear leaves from our lawn and graveled areas - and if this is why you are thinking of buying it I'd perhaps recommend that you invest in something more powerful. But it did the job in the end and then, to my surprise, also did a reasonably good job hoovering up the leaves we had blown into piles. I had almost thought from previous reviews that it would be a waste of time even to try this function but that was not the case and I will be using it in future.

In summary: an excellent vacuum for a patio, reasonably effective elsewhere (both when set to blow and suck), a bit bulky but easy to use and good value for money.

Black & Decker 2600 Watt Blower / Vacuum Shredder

Black & Decker 2600 Watt Blower / Vacuum Shredder

As with the previous reviewers, it's a relatively light and powerful unit.
Downside if the vacuum collection back. It slides in simply enough, but it's not a air tight connection.

So imagine a power motor sucking in air, the air will escape in any gap it can and take with it whatever it's carrying.

My workaround, got a black bin liner, cut the bottom of the back off (as the air will just ballon the bin liner until it pops. Tie it round the bag housing area so that anything that comes out will hit the bin liner and stick to that, rather than on me.

Bosch AXT 25 D Quiet Shredder

Bosch AXT 25 D Quiet ShredderBosch AXT 25 D Quiet Shredder

By Mr. Andrew Bickley
It loves hard woody material up to 1 1/2 inches diameter, you'll struggle to get soft or mainly leafy stuff through (which the Rapid doesn't have a problem with), but then soft stuff rots down fast enough anyway so not really a problem. The 22 & 25TC has a new type of cutter that is meant to overcome this, but I decided not to be the Guinea Pig and let someone else try out the new system. Recommended by Fredshed, worth a read before you commit to buying, if you've got time. It's the same toothed gear against a metal plate in a drum, as on it's predecessor the AXT 2200HP Quiet, but with an extra 0.3kW's, which you can see in action on YouTube `Best Electric Garden Shredder for Home use'. That part works well, plenty of torque, and will chew through stuff that cause most/any other electric shredding machine to jam up, the AXT 2200HP Rapid included.

The difference between this one and it's predecessor is the built in collection box, and why I only gave it 4 stars, once the box gets about 1/2 full the mulch builds up under the drum and tends to get drawn back into the machine again, and starts blocking it. It would be better to let the mulch fall on the ground but you can't easily do this as without the box the bottom of the cutter is exposed to children's fingers and dogs noses, and it has a safety transponder in the box that cuts out the motor if it's not in place. Soft stems have a tendency to come out bruised rather than cut, but if woody material is only chewed and still in one length you have to wind in the metal plate against the drum with the drum turning until you can just hear metal against metal. The Hardened steel cutter will actually bed into the softer alloy plate, and the cutter is then set. All garden shredder tend to work better if you put the material through within a week of it being cut, as woody material dries out it gets much harder.

I would say buy the predecessor that doesn't have the collection box if the 2200HP Quiet wasn't more expensive than the newer 25D. Despite this the 25D is a good well made, built to last machine, that would eat my previous £90 1600w Performance Power impact shredder for breakfast, it's not perfect, but one of the best on the market.
